My Winter Wonderland Christmas Tree

November 28, 2016

It's that time of year, the time when everything seems more magical. It's my favorite time of year, and I love decorating my house for the holidays.

It wasn't until we had our own house that I decided to decorate two trees. The one we have in our family room is nothing too fancy, it's a fake tree from Costco, and it's filled with precious ornaments that I've collected over the years, mostly from friends and they all have special meaning to me.

But the tree in the office at the front of the house is the one I take the most time on. It's a real tree, which reminds me of when I was little. We'd buy a permit for $7 and drive into the mountains and hike as far as we could handle, and search until we find that perfect tree (they were always FAR from perfect). This tree was a more than $7, but a lot easier to find, and a lot prettier! (Thank you Ben's Tree Farm).

I love gold and white for Christmas colors so that's what I decided to decorate this tree with. I started with the lights, and this year I discovered a trick, I put my tree stand on a lady suzan and spun the tree as I did the lights. It was so much easier than walking around and around the tree. Then I do the ribbon, tucking and pinching wherever I see a hole in the branches.

Then I start hanging my biggest ornaments first, set a little inside the tree, and I work my way to the smallest ornaments last, and put the cute ones on the outer most branches so they are seen the best.

I finish it off with picks stuck in here and there, and more at the top of the tree near the star.

Most of the ornaments on this tree I chose simply to go along with my Winter Wonderland theme.

But there is one that is special to me. I found these beautiful angel wings last year on sale after Christmas, and it reminds me of my angel dad in heaven, whom I miss daily, but especially during the holidays.

I'm thankful for this beautiful season, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
